I bought this product for my laundry room. I needed a litter box enclosure that wouldn’t take up much room and would help control the litter from getting all over the floor. It’s the perfect size and my cats started going into it right away without any problems. It looks great, was easy to assemble, and is very sturdy. It also controls odor much better than a litter box alone. The only issue is that one of the cats tends to pee outside the litter box, so pee was leaking into the enclosure. I solved this problem by placing the litter box inside a jumbo litter box liner (the whole thing fits and I use a large litter box). I now simply throw away the soiled liner, wipe the bottom of the box with clorox wipes and place it inside a clean liner. In the future I may purchase one of the litter boxes with the higher sides to eliminate this problem all together, but it’s not a huge deal. I love the way the Designer Catbox looks and I’m very happy with my purchase!
Kelley North PHX – Finally… I hid the cat box!!
Short and sweet… I love this box! It has drastically reduced the amount of tracked litter and sure cuts down on oder. The cats had no problem with the transition of a new location and environment of their box.
It took a while to assemble, but it was easy.
The Petsafe cat litter box has a very unique design. The unit rotate slowly while cleaning the cat waste. This does not pose any disturbance to the cats even while she’s taking care of business. All the waste will be channeled to a hopper and eventually to a plastic waste bag. We don’t have to deal with the cat waste. The good part, we can even use recycle plastic shopping bags. Talk about environmental friendly.
The unit can easily be assembled, there is no need for special tools.
Further more the litter box is designed for big cats in mind. The litter box can easily accommodate up to 12lb cats. Since there is no moving parts, the unit is safe for any cats. We don’t have to worry our cat’s fur being caught by moving pars anymore.

At first, my two cats didn’t want to have anything to do with this litterbox. I eventually had to remove their other box so they would use this one. While it was plugged in, the cats would only walk up and watch it. It was also noisier than expected. To get them to use it, I had to unplug it and only run it for about 20 min when I noticed it was dirty. I decided to go and get a timer for it ($5 at Wal-Mart). I plugged it in and have it set to clean for one hour every 8 hours, and it seems to be working. I would like to see the company offer a version with a timer built in. It would also be nice if it came with a lid. My regular sized adult cat throws litter out everytime he uses it. I had to get a mat to place under it. Other than that, it does work. It has yet to get clogged up. I owned a LitterMaid a few years ago, and it was such a huge hassle, I gave up and went back to a regular box. I also like that you don’t have to buy special expensive containers for the waste. You really can just use a grocery bag. In all, I’m happy with my purchase and would recommend this product, and a timer, to anyone.
It’s now September and I am actually buying another one for my cousin. This is by far the best litter box I have ever used. I found that the premium litter works way better than trying to get away with the cheap stuff. The cheap stuff tends to break apart and will get stuck at the bottom and stop the machine. I don’t know why, but about the time I switched to the premium litter, the litter box quit making the loud cranking noise, which allowed me to get rid of the timer. I usually have to check it to make sure it is still working because it is so quiet. I would still recommend this product to anyone.
The LitterMaid Elite Mega Automatic Self-Cleaning Litter Box keeps your home practically free of bad smells. It cuts down bad odor and mess from cat waste. When your cat has left the box, the LitterMaid will use its steel rake to push the waste to a sealable container located beneath the box. I had seen these fancy litter boxes before but had resisted because of the high price tag and the uncertainty of whether they would work. When this litter box was offered as part of the Vine program, I jumped at it.
The litter box is a lot larger than I had anticipated (I hadn’t actually measured out the dimensions given on the item description). The assembly took about 20 minutes. The manual says to use “premium” scoopable litter; I filled it with Tidy Cats scoopable.
When the unit was powered on, it made its first pass. My younger cat got in, sniffed around, and exited. I knew that would trip the motion sensor, so I waited 10 minutes for the scoop cycle. Unfortunately, the rake moved to the dump position, then stopped. Following the troubleshooting directions, I couldn’t get it to work. I cringed as I realized I would have to call the 800-number for help. After about 5 minutes on hold, I was connected with an agent with a firm command of the English language. She was able to give me an alternate fix, and the unit worked again.
The noise of the unit sounds like an electric can opener. My cats (age 9 months and 2.5 years) do not seem to be afraid of it. In fact, the younger one comes running when he hears it start so that he can watch the rake.
I have been impressed with the overall performance of the unit. After reading the previous review where the unit did not scoop anything, I was worried. The rake is able to scoop and dump all but the smallest of clumps (the ones that are so small they fit between the tines of the rake). I add a little bit more litter every couple of days to keep it filled to the right level.
A few negative things (that keep it from getting a five-star review):
-The waste receptacle fills up about every two days with two cats. Replacing them will get expensive, so I am hoping that I can empty a receptacle and reuse it at least once.
-The unit is noisy when in cleaning mode. I have activated the 8-hour sleep timer, but if you’re trying to get some extra sleep in the morning when the 8 hours is up, you’ll probably hear the motor.
-The price of the unit. The standard recommendation for the number of litter boxes in your home is the number of cats plus one (meaning I need 3 litter boxes). While I like this litter box, there is no way I could afford to have 3 of them, so I have to stick with my existing standard boxes.
Overall, I am more impressed than I thought I would be. Each time I check on the box, I am relieved that it has been scooped without me having to do the dirty work. If anything changes, I will update the review.

Khun Nali – Worth it!
I was nervous when I bought the Bionaire Litter Box. It’s a new product with few reviews, and $100 seemed really expensive, but in our 690 square ft condo we couldn’t afford to be stingy about the price if it could cut down on smell. I bought it, crossed my fingers, and saved the receipt.
So far so good! We’ve had it for a month, and our tiny condo doesn’t smell like cat at all! Our friends are amazed that we even have a cat because of the absence of odor. Here are a few things you should know if you are considering buying one of these:
– We let our cat use this WITHOUT plugging in the filter for one week, so he could get used to it. After the one week was over we plugged it in and he has been using it ever since (and we have a really skittish cat)
– I use half clumping, unscented litter and half crystal litter
– The noise was a little weird at first, but we don’t notice it any more
– Even though it may not smell, always remember to scoop ever day or every other day to prevent urinary tract infections. Once a week we completely empty the box and refill with fresh litter
Tribeca – Great results
I bought this as a replacement for the Litter Robot and have now used it for a few months. I love it. The design is simple, it is very easy to clean, and, most importantly, it takes care of strong odors.
I have two indoor cats in a NYC apartment. The Litter Robot served us well until one of the cats developed an intestinal problem that caused him to use the box very frequently. The Robot was very difficult to handle under these circumstances, mostly because it is large and heavy, and had too many parts and places in which soiled litter would get stuck. It also did not control odors even though I had the model with the filter. The simple, less expensive Bionaire has been terrific in addressing all my concerns and it has transformed my daily cat related routine and improved the environment in our apartment.
The LitterMaid LME9000 litter box comes with 4 waste receptacles and carbon filters. In addition it also equipped with ionic air cleaner which remove the bad odor. So no more worry on the awful smell. This fully automated unit also equipped with infrared sensor which remove cat waste few minutes after cat leaves the unit.
The unit is design for extra large cats in mind. If you have few cats or extra large cats, you should consider this unit.

B. Franklin – UPDATED!
BUT, I was having the same problems as some of the other reviewers, and really disgusted with the elite when I reread the little manual that comes with it again. I noted that the manual said to fill the pan to the fill line of the hand scooper provided. When I looked at the hand scooper, I saw that the line on it was higher than I thought. I filled the pan to the line – a good 1-2 inches, and it has worked fine ever since.
The secret that they don’t tell you is that, unlike the prior machine where you always had to worry about overfilling the pan, with the elite you have to not underfill it. I realized that the long thin tines of the automatic scooper are made to go throught a thick layer of litter. If you don’t fill it to the fill line indicated on the hand scooper, the rake will glide over the solid waste and not deposit it in the pan. Try it. It worked for me, at least up till this point.
UPDATE: Well that point didn’t last long. I spend as much time scooping as when I didn’t have an “automatic” litter box. What a piece of #@&^%. I have now ordered one of the older models from Amazon. They were bad, but not as bad as this. A good auto litter box is an invention that needs an inventor. In the meantime, stay away from this one.
Further update: The older LM900 model is still a far better machine to the point where I bought another from Amazon for $69 to keep in reserve in case I can’t find them in the future.

I do have to agree with the writer below about the unit being flimsier, I was putting it together and one of my cats stepped on the side of the bottom blue pan, it collapsed under her weight, so there wound up being a 2 week retraining period for her to used the Littermaid and not the regular one. I found that spraying with cooking oil or silicon oil did not help keep the Scoop Away litter I was using from sticking to the bottom of the pan and rake. On the advice of a friend I switched to the World’s Best made from corn, and now it doesn’t stick as much to the bottom, however the clumps tend to crumble so you have to manually scoop every few days. I am currently awaiting a replacement since a small plastic rod on the removable rake broke and you can not get just the rake as a replacement part. The item is still under warrenty, 6 months old, so it will be replaced with the latest model, the LME9250. I am satisfied with it, the new rake style means that if litter is piled at the back of the box, like one of my cat loves to do, it no longer jams, the rake just lifts over it; also the new rake style is truely easily removed for cleaning. The electronics are less exposed to accidental wetting by you cat than the older models as well.
I bought this item after having two previous littermaids that lasted me three years and three months respectfully. Unfortunately, this machine is the best of a bad lot, and the “new” elite IS made a lot flimsier than the prior ones, at least insofar as the top and bottom shell are concerned.

Joe Vanderbilt – Simple, effective, and far more quiet than the Petmate Purrforma
I bought this as a replacement of my first automated litterbox, the Petmate Purrformat Plus XL. That one was awful, this one is great.
The rake on this litterbox actually switches the direction it points as it moves to the front and back to the rear of the box. The net effect is that, unlike the Petmate, you don’t get a wall of litter at the rear of the box. The litter is evenly distributed along the bottom every time and the rake is able to return to its starting point every time unlike the Petmate.
As it sweeps forward, the purple part rises up and the rake pushes anything it has caught underneath it. Underneath the purple part is more Fresh Step litter, so when it closes down it traps the odor so the Fresh Step can absorb it. Simple!
Furthermore, this one is much more quiet than the Petmate. The Petmate sounded like a remote controlled tank but this one just has a gentle hum to it, and it completes the task of sweeping in about 1/2 to 1/3 the time the Petmate takes, too.
My 2 1/2 month old kitten took to it like a duck to water. She kind of thinks it’s a toy right now but she also knows what it’s there for.
E. Adair – Scoop Free
I give the Scoop Free litter box a rating of “5 stars” for me. We have three cats and two litter boxes. The Scoop Free and a conventional, (scoop to clean) box. Our cats have 2 (constant water flowing) sources. They drink a LOT of water. Hence, they “P” a lot. The urine in the box is the biggest problem for ANY litter device. Our standard box must be scooped every 2 days and it does smell (we keep that one in the basement). The Scoop Free will last 7-8 days. It does not smell, even when the cats are pooping. The rake stays clean and is quick and quiet when raking. If we did not have the abundant water source, that the cats love, I think the Scoop Free box would last 2-3 more days. This system will cost you more, to use, than other auto boxes which use regular litter. But the features of no smell, quiet operation, and ease of cleaning (none), is worth it for me. I have owned other auto litter boxes, Litter Sweep by Stylette, and LitterMaid, and choose the Scoop Free to be the best. Hedwig Robinson – A MUST for cat owners
First things first: I was a bit reluctant to try the CatGenie because of the mixed reviews of the first model. If I make a large purchase (anything over 50 bucks), I’m researching the HELL out of it first. Usually I check reviews from Amazon, Yahoo Shopping, Consumer Search, epinions, you name it. I live by this method – in the (almost) decade that I have been using the internet to aid in my product searches, I have not yet made a purchase that I regret. This goes triple for the CatGenie 120. They don’t sell the older model anymore, which I think is good; I might have been tempted to save a few bucks, but I’m glad that I didn’t. The 120 has given me no problems at all.
A little background: I have 3 adult cats (two female, one male, all “fixed”) and a smallish house (2 bedrooms – one I use as an office – and one bath), and not a ton of space, which means that the cat box ‘thing’ was always an issue. If I wasn’t extra diligent in cleaning the cat boxes (three of them) at least once, but more often, twice a day, you knew it the minute that you opened the door. Short of getting rid of my cats, I didn’t know what to do. I bought a litter maid, the cats hated it, and the clumps would get stuck in the rake. Switched to crystals, which did a good job at desiccating the poop, but it irritated my cat’s paws. I didn’t mind the pine pellets, but ended up with sawdust all over, and in particular between the boards of my hardwood floors, which I could never fully clean out, no matter how much I vacuumed. Considered the litter Robot, but you still have to use clumping litter, and if I’m dropping over 300 bucks for something, I don’t like that I have to stick to my $45-month-for-litter habit, AND the litter still can get tracked, AND you still have to use plastic bags (environment, anyone?) AND not all the reviews were all that favorable. Enter the CatGenie. The price was somewhat steep, yes, but here is where my super internet sleuthing skills came in handy: you never have to purchase litter – it uses washable, recycled granules that are sanitized by the unit every time you run it, it costs less than the robot, and it hooks up to your water line, so you don’t have to dispose of anything. You have the option to set it to run on a timer, do it manually (push a button and walk away), or set it to be cat-activated. I do mine manually, because with 3 cats, I like to be sure that none of the kitties is kept from using the box because it’s in clean mode. But it’s nice that the options are there. You can either hook it up to the toilet, or do what I did – hook it up to your laundry line. It comes with a T-shaped adaptor that makes this really easy. I don’t have a basement, I have a laundry closet with a sink, so the waste just gets flushed out with the dirty laundry water. I have had my CatGenie 120 since July, and haven’t had to purchase litter since, so my upfront costs are definitely evening out. It will have paid for itself in a few more months.
